Planning a Wedding in Cyprus?

1. Check you have the correct documents for you nationality and that they are still valid (this varies for each country see below)

2. Check with your hotel your required date and time is free.

3. Contact the registrar and with your required date and time they will check this with the hotel and then confirm it with you.

4. Make an appointment a minimum of 4 days before your wedding to go to the local town hall and submit a "Notice of Marriage" application.

5. Fax the declaration form to the town hall

Couples planning their wedding in Cyprus must apply to the marriage officer of their chosen municipal location
in person on arrival.

You will need to book and appointment in advance with the town hall local to where you are getting married

Then after they've both completed and submitted a joint application known as a “Notice of Marriage” the Marriage officer will offer the choice of two licenses permitting their marriage.

A special license can be applied for enabling you to marry 3 days after your application.
This license currently costs approx €281,90

Of if you will be resident on island 20 days before your Cyprus wedding day a standard licence is available and costs approx €128,15

* You must be appropriately dressed for your appointment no swim where or men without a t-shirt.

There is an additional fee for weddings taking place at venues other than the town hall

All documents must be original

  1. Birth certificates  for both Bride & Groom
     
  2. Passports for Bride & Groom (Passports must have 6 months validity remaining. Photo copies of two witnesses, if you do not have witnesses this can be arranged in resort. The originals may be asked for when finalizing the wedding date if the witnesses are not arriving until later this still does not propose a problem)
     
  3. Decree Absolute. (If either party has been married before) this has to be the original.
     
  4. Death Certificate. (If either party is widowed) and previous Marriage Certificate.
     
  5. Affidavits for each Bride & Groom signed by a notary public indicating your marital status i.e. divorced, widowed or single and that you are free to marry. This document must be dated, signed and stamped. Legal documents are only valid for 3 months so make sure that it is dated to be in this time period by the time the wedding is due to take place.

    Scottish residents a certificate of No Impediment is acceptable - this is available from your local registrar.

    Irish Passport holders need to bring a Freedom to Marry Certificate (Obtained from the Registry office in Ireland or from an Irish Embassy if living outside of Ireland
    (Valid for 120 days).
  1. Adoption Certificate (In case of adoption)
  2. Deed pole certificate (In the case of a change of name)
     
  3. Affidavit: If under the age of 18 yrs parental consent is also required in the form of an Affidavit stamped by a solicitor. (This has to be provided in the UK)

     
  4. Anglican Ceremony  Baptism Certificate for at least one of either Bride or Groom (You must bring with you a confirmation form from your clergyperson that you have been attending your local church of choice)
  5. Catholic Ceremony   Baptism Certificates for both Bride and Groom.

 Please remember that all original documents are to be presented at the Town Hall when licenses are applied for.

Affidavits should to be on letter headed paper or have an official red seal. All which can be provided by your Solicitors.

Wedding couples need to make sure that their guest's don't arrive any earlier than 10 minute before their appointmnent time.

The registrar reserves the right to cancel or postpone weddings that are late for their appointment time.

Please Note that in case of rain or temperatures above 40 weddings will be conducted in dedicated rooms at the Town Hall or Hotel.
